Steeple Woodland Nature Reserve

Much like Bracken and Grose, Brambles are thugs. They will grow in, sometimes large, arking branches that use other plants to get to the light. Bracken will also grow as ground cover. Bracken on the ground is cleared as part of the spring and summer slashing work. Larger stems that grow through other plants or across paths should be cut back with secateurs. Roots may be dug up as part of Rhododendron clearing.

Care should be taken, as with Gorse, to wear thick gloves. Bramble thorns can tear flesh as easily as they do clothes!
